Sustainability at NWIR
At NWIR, sustainability is about delivering roofing and cladding solutions that support the long-term performance of buildings while minimising environmental impact.
We take a practical, responsible approach to sustainability that reflects the nature of our work in roofing, our clients’ requirements, and the built environment we operate in.
Our Approach to Sustainability
NWIR is committed to:
- Supporting sustainable building outcomes through high-quality, durable roofing systems
- Reducing waste and unnecessary resource use across our operations
- Promoting energy-efficient roofing and cladding solutions
- Continuously improving our environmental practices where practical and achievable
Sustainable Roofing & Cladding Solutions
As a specialist industrial and commercial roofing contractor, we recognise that roofs play a key role in the energy performance and lifespan of buildings. We support sustainability through our services by:
- Delivering roofing and cladding systems that improve thermal efficiency and reduce heat loss, such as metal cladding
- Installing long-life roof systems that reduce the need for premature replacement and minimise material waste
- Advising clients on modern roofing materials that offer improved environmental performance, including recyclable membrane systems where appropriate
- Designing solutions that withstand harsh weather conditions, helping protect buildings over the long term
Materials & Environmental Impact
NWIR works with established manufacturers and suppliers to make sure that materials are fit for purpose and aligned with modern sustainability expectations. Where appropriate, we:
- Specify materials with proven durability and extended service life
- Use roofing systems that offer recyclability at the end of life
- Support products with improved manufacturing and environmental credentials
Material selection is always guided by performance, suitability, and client requirements.
Waste Management & Resource Use
We take a responsible approach to waste and resource management on site, especially when it comes to hazardous materials like asbestos, as well as recyclable materials. Our practices include:
- Segregating waste wherever practicable to support recycling
- Using licensed waste carriers and approved disposal facilities
- Reducing excess material through accurate surveying, planning, and specification
- Encouraging efficient use of materials and resources during installation
Continuous Improvement
Sustainability is an evolving area within the construction industry. NWIR is committed to reviewing its practices and identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance as materials, technologies, and industry standards develop. This is a key part of our operation, and has been for the 100 years we’ve been in operation.
Building Sustainably for the Long Term
NWIR is committed to supporting sustainable construction through durable roofing solutions, responsible material use, and practical site management. Our approach to sustainability focuses on delivering long-term value for clients while contributing positively to the built environment.

When to book a roof moisture scan
Most clients come to us at one of four points, when the cost of guessing what is wrong with the roof starts to outweigh the cost of finding out.
- A leak keeps coming back after repair. The scan shows how far the water has travelled, so the next repair deals with all of the wet area rather than just the visible one.
- Your roof is due for refurbishment. Knowing which areas are wet tells you whether parts of the existing roof can stay in place or need to be stripped.
- You are setting maintenance budgets. Evidence of the roof’s condition lets you plan spending instead of reacting to the next leak.
- You are buying, selling or leasing a building. A scan gives you the roof’s real condition before you agree on a price or sign a lease.
From scan to targeted repair
Because we are both a roof surveying company and a roofing contractor, the quote that follows your survey is a full project costing, including the access and health and safety requirements of the job. When only part of your roof is wet, the work can be limited to those areas through flat roofing repairs rather than a full replacement.
Materials are installed by manufacturer-approved operatives, and new roofing can carry a single point guarantee of between 10 and 25 years, depending on the project.
Accredited roof surveyors and contractors
We are members of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) and accredited under CHAS and Constructionline. You can see the full list on our awards and accreditations page.
Other roof surveys and diagnostics
A moisture scan tells you where your roof is wet, but it is not always the best tool for finding where water gets in. Electronic leak detection locates leaks in most types of waterproofing membrane, while a commercial roof survey assesses the overall condition of your roof. You can see every method we offer on our roof surveys and diagnostics page.
Book a free roof survey
If you suspect water is trapped in your roof, finding out how far it has spread is the first step towards fixing only what needs fixing. Book your free site survey, and we will recommend the right scan for your building.
