Liquid Applied Roofing Systems
Whether you’re looking for liquid roofing repair or replacement, we have a wealth of experience in applying liquid roofing to commercial properties
What Is Liquid Applied Roofing?
Liquid applied roofing is a polymeric coating, usually polyurethane or PMMA, that cures into a single seamless waterproof barrier across your roof. It’s sometimes called cold liquid applied waterproofing, liquid applied membrane (LAM) or cold applied liquid roofing.
A typical system is built up in layers to the manufacturer’s specification:
- Primer
- Base coat
- Reinforcement matting
- UV top coat
Liquid roofing offers a long-term solution to the problem of water ingress and can last up to 25 years, before needing any kind of repair. These types of roof coating systems also offer a cost effective repair option and superior alternative to traditional roofing substrates.
What Roofs Are Suitable For Liquid Applied Membrane?
Liquid roofing systems are versatile, which is why they’ve become a common choice in many commercial and industrial roofs. The coating can be applied to flat, pitched or domed roofs. It can be applied over most existing substrates, including mineral felt, mastic asphalt and more recent PVC and TPO membranes.
This makes it a good option for roof maintenance and refurbishment alongside new builds. If your existing roof is sound underneath, but failing on the surface, a liquid applied system can extend its life without a full replacement.
If you’re not sure whether liquid applied roofing is a good choice for your building, our free site survey can tell you.
Benefits Of Liquid Applied Roofing
The main benefits of liquid applied roofing are:
- It’s cost effective
- Long-lasting
- Easy to install
- Allows for insulation
Liquid applied roofing systems are highly resistant to UV degradation and other harmful airborne pollutants. They’re also safer and easier to install than other types of roof systems, as there is no hot work involved.
Insulation can be built into a new flat roofing scheme to bring it up to current warm roof regulations. Tapered insulation can be designed to clear ponding water and discharge rainwater properly from roof level. Insulated roof lights can be added to bring more daylight into the building below.
Polyurethane & PMMA Liquid Applied Systems
NWIR installs liquid systems in polyurethane and PMMA compositions. The right choice depends on your roof. Polyurethane is a flexible, hard-wearing finish suited to general flat roof waterproofing. PMMA cures fast, even in lower temperatures, which makes it useful for detailing, for roofs that cannot stay out of use for long.
Our surveys can tell you which composition fits your roof, your access constraints and your timescale and the recommendation is explained in plain terms.
